If you are curious to learn/see more, I have lots of pictures uploaded onto our flickr.com site. Once on flickr.com, do an advanced search for "crushpadwine". I just created a new set of photos that takes you through the process from start to finish...from vine to bottle! And if you are interested in getting in touch with our online winemaking community, check out www.crushnet.com. Most of all, have fun with it!
Tracey, indeed I captured the 'Heart of your wine' with a microscope and it was a delightful surprise. There's another view of it at http://www.sondrabarrett.com/gallery.html. I love your wines.

Did you really capture that image of Quintessa wine under a microscope. It is beautiful. At Quintessa we do really pour our heart and soul into the wine...we've just never seen the fruits of our labor portrayed in such a visual way! Thank you for sharing this image.
This is a blog that looks at the 'inner life' of wine using the microscopic portraits of wine. Sounds strange EXCEPT this inner look gives us some clues to the structure and tasting experience of wine.

Besides that it gives me talking points to discuss wine, life, ideas on language and wine, and the mystical qualities. And who would have thought the inside look of wine would show such beauty?

I don't know how this works. It would be helpful to the neophyte blog reader/commenter to have directions. Mayber they are here somewhere and I don't see them. I wanted to ask which wines were pictured in the feminine/masculine discussion and how you characterized each one. I'm looking at the possible use of blogging for the Center for Attitudinal Healing website and wondered about how hard it is to do, technically, and how much response there is to it. This is GORGEOUS AND PROVOCATIVE!

Yes, the rich soil around Inglenook and John Daniel built the cache for California Cabs - I in fact was fortunate to have been part of a wonderful tasting at the old Inglenook of 44 years of the their cask cabs dating to 1941.... many still were holding their own and I've got 'the pictures' to show their vitality.
Thanks Ben.

Though an historical case could be made for Zinfandel, I agree that especially in California, Cab has to be considered king. I would add John Daniel Jr. of Inglenook to Georges de Latour and Andre Tchelistcheff of BV as the individuals who really caused Cab to take off in California. A couple other regional candidates for king might be Nebbiolo in Piedmont (particularly Barolo), and Tempranillo from Spain.
