I fell into a vat of pinot, or so it seems, licked my fingers and it was GOOD.
I began my explorations of the 'inner wine' when I was artist-in-residence for Sterling Vineyards more than 20 years ago. My day job was assistant professor at the University of California Medical School where I used a microscope for scientific research. Once I peeked into the 'innards' of wine, I was hooked.

Vineyards entice me, exploring wine excites me and I share my insights and images with you to inspire and expand how you enjoy wine.
The great Andre Tschelistcheff told me I was seeing the
jewels in wine.

Over the years I have photographed thousands of wines at every stage of life - green berries, barrel ferments, aged well for 44 years and freshly bottled, biodynamic grapes and organic wines.
I've given slide shows and
visual tasting events at the Rudd Oakville Estate, Sterling Vineyards, the Lawrence Hall of Science, Grgich Hills Cellars to name a few places.
The images through the microscope show us more about wine and our inner world. Here I will share what I continue to discover. It'll be a blend of art, science, and magic, just like winemaking.
